Convent of the Sacred Heart is New York City's oldest independent school for girls. Position: Upper School Mandarin Teacher
Reports to: Upper School Division Head and World Languages Department Chair
FLSA: Exempt, full-time
Salary Range: $65,000-$100,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience

The Upper School is recruiting a full-time  Mandarin Teacher  starting in late August 2025 Language teachers at Sacred Heart are passionate educators who inspire students to reach their full potential. Our curriculum encompasses language proficiency and cultural awareness, stressing the importance of precision to achieve fluency and ultimately to become active, multilingual citizens of the 21st century.

Responsibilities:

  • Courses including, but not limited to:
    • 4 classes
      • Mandarin 1
      • Mandarin 2
      • Mandarin 3
      • Mandarin 4
  • Provide academic support for students outside of class time, answering homework questions, consulting with them as needed
  • Attend department and faculty meetings
  • Support the students and division by covering study halls, emergency coverage, lunch duties, and other assignments as needed
  • Teach an elective for MS students

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree highly preferred
  • Previous teaching experience at the high-school level
  • Exhibit excellent classroom management skills appropriate for Upper School students
  • Have a passion for interacting with high-school aged students, in and outside of the classroom.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of, appreciation for, and demonstrated commitment to anti-racist, anti-bias education, multicultural teaching, and culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Proficient with current educational technology, especially blended learning platforms and strategies
  • Positive team player with a desire to contribute and share your gifts and talents with the students, faculty and administration of the school
