Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of the Pharmacy Director or, in their absence, the Pharmacist on Duty. Pharmacy Technicians collaborate with pharmacists to ensure that patients receive the correct medication and care and help keep the pharmacy running smoothly. Responsibilities include processing, counting, locating, dispensing, and labeling prescribed medications to patients under direct supervision. They serve both Native and non-Native patients with compassionate care, ensuring medication safety and working closely with clinic staff and team members to promote optimal patient health by maintaining effective medication management. Additional duties include customer service, inventory management, and maintaining compliance with pharmacy policies, including HIPAA.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential functions include but are not limited to the following)
Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for entering prescription information into the pharmacy and health center computer systems. They assist customers by processing new prescriptions, selling over the counter (OTC) products, and offering refills. Technicians also ensure that each customer is offered consultation with the pharmacist. Additionally, they handle phone inquiries in a professional manner and manage communications with insurance vendors to process prescriptions efficiently.
Technicians are also tasked with managing inventory control, including ordering, receiving, and returning medications. They are the primary contact for vendors and maintain cost-effective inventory practices. In compliance with state and federal regulations, they fill prescriptions by counting, labeling, and dispensing medications. Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for training pharmacy associates and relief medical assistants on tasks such as answering phones, running the cash register, and processing refills.
Furthermore, they manage the point-of-sale system, balance the cash register, and handle treatment authorization requests for Medi-Cal patients. Coordinating medication deliveries with the outreach department is another key responsibility. Pharmacy Technicians are expected to contribute to the success of the health center by maintaining a professional attitude, consistent attendance, and the ability to interact well with colleagues and customers.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in a retail pharmacy environment. Active Pharmacy Technician license in California required.
Preferred Qualifications: Pharmacy Technician certification preferred.
Requirements: Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation and be free of any felony convictions.
Must have a vehicle, valid California driver's license (or ability to obtain with 30 days of hire), vehicle insurance. Must be insurable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires walking, standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time; climbing stepstools, etc., stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching; pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity for operation of computer, phones and small office machines; hearing, talking and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
