Are you a seasoned financial controller ready to take on a pivotal role during an exciting period of transformation? We are seeking an experienced Controller to guide our accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strategic alignment as we integrate the operations of two companies and implement a new ERP system (NetSuite). 

About the Role 

The Controller will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, fostering team collaboration, and driving operational excellence across all accounting functions. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead during a time of innovation, combining the responsibilities of financial reporting, treasury management, and audit oversight with the challenges of ERP implementation and corporate integration. 

 

Purpose

The Controller plays a critical role, ensuring financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and alignment with company and departmental goals. This role involves managing a high-performing team, setting clear expectations, providing constructive feedback, and empowering team members to take ownership for adherence to standards while fostering collaboration across departments. The Controller is responsible for delivering accurate financial reports in compliance with GAAP and regulations, overseeing financial audits with external partners, and implementing corrective actions based on audit findings. Additionally, the Controller manages treasury functions, including adherence to bank covenants, cash flow oversight, and debt management, while supporting profitability improvement strategies and the CFO’s strategic role with the CEO and Board.

Responsibilities

Leadership, Management, Accountability (LMA)

  • Build and retain a strong finance team that demonstrates expertise in core corporate accounting functions, including internal financial reporting, general ledger management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, sales tax, corporate tax and planning, treasury management, and management accounting.
  • Oversee team operations by establishing clear expectations, setting goals, engaging with team members, and offering constructive feedback to promote professional growth and teamwork.
  • Ensure all finance team members comply with departmental standards, maintain effective communication with other departments, and uphold clear expectations regarding project timelines and deliverables to drive accountability and success.
  • Partner effectively with the Financial Analyst to conduct thorough variance analysis, enhance management reporting, and streamline budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
  • Assist with the strategic support to the CFO.

Core Accounting Functions

  • Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring timely and transparent reporting.
  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls and accounting policies to support reliable financial reporting, conduct of best business practices, adherence to evolving regulatory requirements that ultimately guide sound financial decisions.
  • Efficiently run daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting procedures including all financial closing activities.
  • Conduct variance analyses and review financial data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with organizational goals, providing actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Analyze and interpret balance sheets, income statements, cash flow, and liabilities.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of financial systems structure and design to ensure efficient and accurate processing of data.

Financial Audits

  • Perform internal audits, financial risk assessments, and facilitate intervention strategies.
  • Manage and oversee financial audits conducted by external partners, including CPA firms, banks, and regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Implement corrective actions and process improvements based on audit findings, ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

Treasury Management

  • Serve as the lead administrator on all banking platforms, monitoring user access and permissions.
  • Ensure adherence to bank financial covenants.
  • Oversee daily cash flow management activities.

Education/Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a CPA license preferred
  • Five to ten years of experience in a managerial accounting position 
  • Prior supervisory experience in mainstream accounting, including A/R, A/P, credit, collections and general ledger 
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required 
  • NetSuite experience preferred; ERP experience with SAP or similar platforms a must. 
  • Sales tax experience preferred
